Green Heron

Green Heron

We headed down to Cornwall with Rob Stokes and David Cambell to try for the American Bittern but there was no luck. The news broke out when we were about 10 minutes from the sight that there is no sign. so we decided to go and see the Green Heron at the lost gardens of Heligan.

We arrived at the lost gardens round about 11:00 am and there had been no sigh of the Green Heron so we were thinking that we had dipped on this bird to ,anyway we decided to head in to the lost garden were the Heron normally gets seen, we took a look in the jungle ponds but there was still no sign of any Green Heron, we heard Rob call us and say that he has just seen the Heron so we rushed to where he had just seen the bird.
Green Heron

When we got to the bottom pond someone said that the Green Heron had just gone into deep cover so we  waited for it to come out, and dad located the Heron walking out under the willow tree and i got straight on it, the bird was alot smaller than i thought it was going to be, so we watched it for about 45 mins, we managed to get 10 foot away from this little bird

We headed across to exminstor marshes to see if the American Golden Plover was still there, but there was no sign, the bird had moved down to Dawlish warren so we dipped on our second bird for the day.

Over bird noted were

kingfisher
black tailed godwits
grey plover
curlew
                                                                              avocets
                                                                              red breasted merganser
